On the streets of Kabul, 14-year-old Qodrat sells illegal movie tickets. After inadvertently selling a ticket to a member of the secret police, he ends up at a Soviet orphanage, where he falsifies his name at the registration desk in an attempt to gain more authority. Similar to children in other areas of the world, Qodrat's daily existence revolves around forming friendships, falling in love, engaging in mischievous behavior, and embarking on exciting adventures. However, behind the safety of the orphanage's gates, the world they once knew is radically altering as the Mujahideens launch the civil war.
