Alvin and the Chipmunks is an American animated television series starring The Chipmunks, produced by Bagdasarian Productions and Ruby-Spears Enterprises from 1983 to 1987, then by DIC Entertainment from 1988 to 1990. It ran on NBC from 1983 to 1990 and is a continuation of The Alvin Show from 1961 to 1962. Miss Beatrice Miller served as The Chipettes' human carer. In 1988, the production company was changed to DiC Enterprises, and the show was renamed The Chipmunks. The Chipmunks' first animated feature picture, The Chipmunk Adventure, was released by The Samuel Goldwyn Company in 1987, during the fifth season of the show. Janice Karman directed the film, which featured the Chipmunks and Chipettes competing in a global championship. In its eighth and last season, the show's title was once again changed to The Chipmunks Go to the Movies. Each episode parodied a Hollywood film, such as Back to the Future and King Kong. Also released were other television specials featuring the characters. 1990 saw the production of the special Rockin' Through the Decades. In the same year, the Chipmunks collaborated with other well-known cartoon characters for the special Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, which aimed to combat drug consumption.
