Food and Drink is a long-running British television show on BBC Two. From 1982 to 2002, it was the first national TV show in the UK to talk about food and drink without cooking and recipe demonstrations. The show was made by BBC producer Henry Murray in 1982, based on an idea by Jancis Robinson, Fay Maschler, and Paul Levy. The first series was hosted by Simon Bates and Gillian Miles, and Jilly Goolden made her first regular television appearances as the show's wine expert. Russell Harty showed filmed reports from special restaurants around Britain. The creators of this show came up with the clever idea of having a small group of 20 people who were called "tasters and testers" The first season aired in the summer, but it was an instant hit, drawing an average of 1.5 million viewers a week, which was a lot for BBC Two in the summer of the 1980s. Later seasons were hosted by Chris Kelly and chef Michael Barry, along with wine experts Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke. Food and Drink Summer Quiz, a spin-off panel game, aired during the main show's summer hiatus in 1987. The theme song was written by Simon May. Food and Drink came back to BBC Two on February 4, 2013 with Michel Roux Jr. and Kate Goodman as hosts.
