In the United States, the miniseries version of Wild Palms, which runs for a total of five hours and was created by Greengrass Productions, made its debut on the ABC network in May of 1993. The sci-fi drama, which was announced as a "event series," explores the risks that can arise when mass media technologies, and virtual worlds in particular, are used in a way that is motivated by political agendas. It was adapted from a comic strip that had been written by Bruce Wagner and illustrated by Julian Allen. The strip had been initially published in 1990 in the magazine Details. Wagner, who was also responsible for writing the film's script, worked alongside Oliver Stone as an executive producer. James Belushi, Dana Delany, Robert Loggia, Kim Cattrall, and Angie Dickinson are some of the actors who are featured in the series. Directors Kathryn Bigelow, Keith Gordon, Peter Hewitt, and Phil Joanou were responsible for helming the individual episodes.
