The X Factor is a Dutch television music talent competition in which aspiring pop singers are chosen from public auditions. It airs on the RTL4 network in the Netherlands on Friday evenings. The first season ran from October 2006 to February 2007, while the second series aired from January to May 2009. The show is produced by Blue Circle and is currently sponsored by Fiat. The title's "X Factor" refers to the indefinable "something" that makes for star status. X Factor took over for the hugely successful Idols, which was cancelled after the third and fourth series. Contestants sing in front of the X Factor judges during the initial televised audition phase of the show in the hopes of making it to "boot camp." Following a further selection procedure, the judges are each assigned a category to mentor, and the chosen finalists advance to the second phase of the competition, in which the public votes on live performances. Pop singer and TV host Gordon Heuckeroth, former Dolly Dots member Angela Groothuizen, rapper Ali Bouali, and alto saxophonist Candy Dulfer are the current judges. The inaugural season of X Factor premiered in October 2006 and lasted until February 2007. It wasn't as well-known as Idols. Sharon Kips took home the prize. The second series, which ran from January to May2009, was more successful. Lisa Hordijk won. Jaap van Reesema triumphed in the third series. Rochelle Perts won the fourth series. Haris Alagic took home the fifth series.
