Something did go wrong, but there were no meteorites that hit Earth, no terrorists that placed the world in peril, and no nuclear war that was launched. There is no longer any communication between the majority of settlements on Earth. There is still energy in a ring-shaped region in Eastern Europe, and there may even be life out there, according to reports coming from space. The findings of the military forces outside of the Ring are startling. There are dead bodies scattered all over the place, including in shops, on the highways, in automobiles, in hospitals, and at train stations. Who or thing is responsible for wiping out all life on Earth? How much longer will the final vestige of human civilization hold out?
