She's pious and independent, but Mary Bee Cuddy is called upon to save three women who have been ravaged by the harsh conditions of the American frontier. The trek to Iowa by covered wagon is a scary one, so she hires a low-life vagrant, George Briggs, to accompany her. In the east, where a minister and his wife have promised to take the women in, the three women and the unusual pair travel together. They must first travel the rugged Nebraska Territories, a land of breathtaking natural beauty, psychological danger, and continual menace.
