The River

The beautiful first color film by director Jean Renoir was shot entirely on location in India. Based on Rumer Godden's book, the movie is a beautiful contrast between the growing pains of three young women and the constant flow of the Bengal River, which is at the center of their daily lives. Renoir's subtle understanding and love of India and its people make The River a beautiful look at the fragile links between fleeting emotions and lasting art.
